The largest opposition is claiming that the alleged investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department(CID)  into the Bawumia verification saga will be a totally pointless endeavour since the running mate Dr. Bawumia has done no wrong.

The EC Tuesday, August 9 insisted the verification of the NPP running mate, Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia was done outside the designated exhibition centre in his locality.

Per the Commission’s investigations conducted into the matter, Bawumia was facilitated by both EC officers involved in the incident to check his name in the voters’ register and subsequently got verified outside the exhibition centre a statement issued by the EC and signed by Deputy Chairperson (Operations), Sulley Amadu said.

According to the EC, the situation was concluded as an irregularity and a breach of the rules by the NPP running mate and the EC officers involved.

The CID has since Tuesday taken over the case to launch a full scale investigations into the incident.

But Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Karbo insists the supposed investigations into the matter will amount to nothing.

“What is the basis of this investigation?…Its very clear that the NDC’s lies and claims which were all calculated to destroy the image of Dr. Bawumia has all fallen flat,” he said.

Following the report put out by the election management body(EMB) on the allegations surrounding Bawumia’s verification, Karbo reiterated “We’re very happy with the EC’s report. It clearly vindicates our earlier position which states very clearly that (1.) Dr. Bawumia was never verified in his home or family residence as put out falsely by the NDC.  (2.) Dr. Bawumia never gave any official of the EC this spurious GHS 10,000 which the NDC put out. (3.) Dr. Bawumia never invited any EC officer to verify him at his residence. And I think that the EC’s statement speaks volumes of our position and we feel very vindicated.”

According to him, the NPP takes strong exception to what he described as the “false claims” by the NDC, insisting that “It’s all calculated to draw him[Bawumia] into the mud and to denigrate his integrity”

He adds “rather the BNI should be asking the NDC this spurious allegation about some GHS 10,000 which the EC ‘s own statement after interviewing their own officers and dismissing them couldn’t authenticate whether or not Dr. Bawumia handed money to them or not.”

He said the NDC must render an unqualified apology to the Vice Presidential nominee of the NPP for the spurious allegations and wicked lies which according to him was told on his person.
