Campaign Coordinator for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says President John Dramani Mahama was diplomatic with his main opponent, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in suggesting that the latter slept off during his trip to the Western region, a reason why he couldn’t appreciate NDC’s efforts made so far in road construction.
“It’s far better for President Mahama to suggest that Nana Addo was probably sleeping that’s why he wasn’t able to see the good effort of the government in respect of road construction than to impute that he’s a liar. I think that Mahama has been much diplomatic in his claims,’ Kofi Adams told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Wednesday.
President Mahama kicked off his re-election campaign on Tuesday, in the Western region where he urged the people of the region to reject lies being spread about him and his government by the opposition.
Speaking to the people, the President said just recently the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was in the Western Region claiming that he did not see any good roads in the region.
Expressing disappointment about that statement, the President said, “Probably he was sleeping.”
But the largest opposition NPP has expressed disappointment in the words of the President against the three-time flagbearer of the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition describing Mahama’s claims as “unpresidential and a low blow” to the opposition leader.
However, Kofi Adams in defence to the statement made by the President said, indeed Nana Addo might have slept on his tour to the region because of the good roads he travelled on.
“Sometimes when you are travelling on asphaltic roads with no potholes and bumps you can sleep off. So that is what may be happened to Akufo-Addo,” he said.
He added: “his aides should help him in some of the issues of concern to him, Nana Addo is ageing so it behoves on his aides to assist him on his public commentaries and politics in general, lest he’ll be making unfounded statements that will muddy the waters for them.”
