President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to ensure that the Volta Region gets its fair share of the national cake just like any other region of the country.

He has also pledged that he together with his governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) shall not to take the region for granted despite it being the stronghold of the umbrella family.

The region has in recent times become the center of public discourse, notably, by politicians who are seeking to win the votes of Voltarians in the upcoming December 7 polls.

But the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and President of Volta Region House of Chief, Togbe Afede XIV, has warned the tag on the region as the ‘world bank’ of the NDC is derogatory.

He further noted that the NDC had taken the region for granted with the show of gross disrespect to the chiefs and people of Volta Region.

However, President Mahama in a speech read on his behalf by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho on the occasion of Asogli Yam Festival in Ho on Sunday said never will he take the Volta Region for granted.

“Togbe, as I continue to take counsel from our revered Traditional Leaders, I wish to assure that your recent admonishing to politicians not to take the Volta Region for granted, is a call in the right direction. I assure you that as President of Ghana, I John Dramani Mahama, shall never take the Volta Region for granted”.

“Indeed, I shall never take any Region for granted. I pledge to ensure that the Volta Region gets its deserved fair share of the development cake”, he noted.

He further assured the people that he will never forget about the Volta Region just as his predecessors Jerry John Rawlings and the late Prof. Evans Atta Mills did.

“The works that I have been able to humbly execute since the people of Volta Region voted massively for me in 2012 are there for all to see.  I will be the first person to admit that there is still a lot more to do and I pray that by the kind Grace of God, my second term 2017-2020 will see more accelerated growth in Volta Region and the rest of Ghana, as we have laid the solid foundation for real growth and development”.

“The Ghanaian electorate is very sophisticated and discerning and so politicians who peddle falsehood must be exposed”, he added.
