Two members of the governing National Democratic Congress(NDC) who defected this year after the party’s primary have decided to contest as Independent candidates in the Upper West region.
The two submitted their filing fees to the EC to seal their nominations in the parliamentary race in their various jurisdiction.
The candidates, Abu Samson, Member of Parliament for Lawra and Farouk Bandana of the Wa West constituency both decided to abandon the party after they lost their bid to stand on the ticket of the governing party in the upcoming elections.
Abu Samson in an interaction with media men said he’s duly paid the required amount before the deadline to enable him contest the Lawra seat as an Independent candidate, while Farouk Bandana also confirmed making the necessary payment for his nominations ahead of the polls.
Political analysts are of the view that the situation is likely to affect the NDC’s target of retaining all the 11 parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region, in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had two seats in the Upper West Region, but lost them to the governing NDC in the 2012 general election.
