It has become common knowledge that the Black Stars camp is not a peaceful place, but skipper Asamoah Gyan says it ain’t so.
The build-up to Ghana’s 2018 World Cup opener against Uganda was dominated by a supposed rift between the Ghana FA and the Sports Ministry, with tensions nearly spilling over at various times in the last three months.
To add fuel to fire, recent media reports have hinted at a division in the team along the lines of Gyan and his vice, Andre Ayew. “A lot of people have their opinion but they don’t know what is going on in the camp,” he told Joy FM.
“Ex-players saying stuff, maybe they might be guessing but it is not like that. For me i don’t see any changes in the team, everything is going well and as I always say – it is when things go wrong, that you get people saying all sort of things.”
But Gyan, who is hoping to qualify the team for another World Cup, insists that all is well in the camp. “Because if we had beaten the Ugandan’s let’s say six, I’m not sure people will not be saying there is confusion in the camp but we will continue to work hard and ensure we qualify.”
On rumours that Ayew is eyeing the captaincy, Gyan rubbished it and insisted that a place in Russia is the big goal. Ghana will play Egypt in their next World Cup qualifier on 13 November in Alexandria.
