The Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) has fined three fuel stations within the Tamale metropolis for offences associated with various standard irregularities.

One of the fuel stations was fined for engaging in under-delivering services, meaning, the station was dispensing fuel below the purchased volumes.

The other two stations were also found selling fuel with unverified pumps to the drivers.

All three operators were consequently slapped with a penalty of GH?3,000 each as a warning for them and other fuel stations.

This was disclosed by the Northern Regional Officer of the GSA, Isaac Nii Trebi Hammond, during the commemoration of the World Standard Day (WSD).

In an interview with the B&FT, Mr. Hammond said the verification exercise carried out by the Authority led to the detection of the unscrupulous practices being undertaken by the three fuel stations.

The GSA embarks on fuel verification exercise unannounced twice every year in order to ensure that standards are adhered to.

The WSD is celebrated internationally each year on October 14, to honour the efforts of the thousands of experts who develop standards within the worldwide standards development organizations.

The purpose of the celebration is also to raise awareness among regulators, industry players and consumers about the importance of standardization in the global economy.

He therefore stressed that some green stickers have been stuck on fuel dispensers of compliant fuel stations, hence, drivers should look out for such stations and trade with them.

He further stated that non-compliant fuel stations have been labelled with red stickers on their dispensers in order to inform drivers to exercise caution when dealing with such fuel stations.

Mr. Hammond reiterated that the Authority is committed to ensure that all operators live up to the required standards, hence, operators found culpable after some series of warning risk closure of their stations. – B&FT
