The Electoral commission(EC) has filed a motion at the Supreme court seeking a review of  the High court decision  in the disqualification ruling of the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

The commission said it took the decision in the interest of public policy and credibility of the electoral process.

A statement signed by Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, Head of Communication at the EC said: “In the interest of public policy and the credibility of the electoral process, the Commission has today [Monday, October 31, 2016] filed an application at the Supreme Court to quash the High Court decision and seek clarity on the relevant aspects of the law on candidate nominations,”

The court, last Friday presided over by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, ordered the EC to allow the PPP’s flagbearer Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to make the necessary correction on his nomination forms submitted to the commission.

The court noted that the EC failed to give the PPP candidate a fair opportunity to amend mistakes on the party’s nomination forms.

Dr. Nduom and 11 other candidates were disqualified from the race over anomalies detected on their forms.
