Five sutained severe injuries after supporters of the ruling National Democartic Congress (NDC) and largest the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed at New Juaben North constituency supporters in the Eastern Region.
The incident happened when both parties were embarking on a campaign walk on Sunday, November 20, led by Parliamentary Candidates for the both parties, NDC’s Haruna Apau Wiredu, and NPP’s Nana Adjei Boateng ahead of the upcoming crucial December 7 elections. There was pelting of stones by some unruly supporters leading to the injuries.
It took the timely intervention of the Police who fired warning shots and tear gas to restrain the angry supporters, following calm was restored.
In the process, three vehicles were smashed.
The injured have been rushed to the st Joseph Hospital for medical care.
