The Ministry of Agriculture has placed a temporary ban on the movement of poultry products.

Deputy Minister, Hannah Louisa Bisiw, confirmed to Kasapa News Tuesday that the ban has become necessary, and that it was a precautionary measure.

“The ban is nationwide. It is a temporary measure to pull the breaks on the avian flu.

“We want to be able to control the areas where some of these incidents of bird flu have been recorded. We are encouraging people not to make any movements with these life products.”

“We are pleading with people to send their poultry products to the veterinary for them to be checked.

“It is a collective responsibility… we can only fight this thing if we are responsible in our handling of our poultry products.”

On Wednesday, June 10, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture announced the confirmation of bird flu in the country after test samples taken to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Laboratory in Padova, Italy, proved positive.
