Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has appealed to supporters and sympathisers of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are harbouring any plans to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in the December 7 general elections to change his or her mind.
According to him, much as the presidency is the ultimate goal of the umbrella family, securing majority seats in Parliament will help the President to easily implement his policies and programs meant for the development of the country.
He said it will be suicidal for the electorates to vote massively for Mr. John Dramani Mahama as President of the land and vote for a parliamentary candidate who does not belong to the NDC.
Parliamentary candidates who stand on the ticket of the NDC, he noted, must equally be given priority and voted for just like President Mahama.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur made this appeal when he interacted with party supporters and sympathisers in the Afram Plains North and South on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
His visit to the two constituencies was part of his campaign tour to the Eastern Region which begun on Monday, November 28, 2016.
He was accompanied by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Director of Elections, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and former National Organiser of the party, Yaw Boateng Gyan.
There are reports that scores of the party’s supporters have decided to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama and vote against Betty Mensah and Eric Osei Owusu, parliamentary candidates of the NDC who are contesting the seats of Afram Plains North and South.
But the Vice-President commenting on the issue said such a decision will be a big blow to the akatamansonians if the party supporters and sympathisers go ahead with their decision.
He said for the party to have a firm ground to implement its programs and policies for the country, there would be the need for the electorates to vote for President John Dramani Mahama and his parliamentary candidates.
“I am urging you to reject anyone who will come to you and tell you vote for President Mahama and vote against our (NDC) parliamentary candidate. Let us put whatever has happened behind us and support the party to victory in the 2016 elections”, he noted.
Among the places the Vice-President toured in the Afram Plains North and South constituencies are Maame Krobo, Ekye, Amanfrom, and Tease.
