Head of the Commonwealth Observer Mission in Ghana, Thabo Mbeki has congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on his election to the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana.

In a statement issued on December 9, 2016 and signed by the Former President of South Africa, he commended H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for accepting the outcome of the elections on December 7 and the Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei for conducting a “free, fair, generally orderly and peaceful” election.

Chairperson of the Ghana Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, announced that Honourable Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had been elected President of the Republic of Ghana.

We take this opportunity to convey our congratulations to President-Elect, Mr Nana Akufo-Addo, and wish him success as he discharges his obligations as President of the sister Republic of Ghana. We also express our sincere appreciation for the dignified manner in which H.E. President John Dramani Mahama accepted the outcome of the Elections, which demonstrated both his respect for the people and his commitment to a democratic and peaceful Ghana. We also extend our congratulations to all those who have been elected to serve as Members of Parliament. We salute and thank Mrs Charlotte Osei and the rest of the Ghana Electoral Commission for the exemplary manner in which they conducted the entire electoral process. The sister people of Ghana have made all of us as Africans proud by helping to produce credible, transparent and peaceful democratic elections which all our countries should emulate.
