The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained. The souls of those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us everyday… unseen, unheard but always near and still loved, still missed and very dear.

The departure of Kwabena Boadu to the island of the ancestors has brought so much grief upon his family with lots of questions left unanswered in the minds of his friends and loved ones. Kwabena was full of charisma and so much energy. His willingness to serve and total devotion to humanity earned him a special place in the hearts of the key members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with specific reference to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the running mate of the flag bearer of the NPP Presidential candidate and president-elect, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo. His death was indeed unexpected and has come as a shock to everyone including those who only knew him from afar.boadu-1
Kwabena Boadu, born on November 4, 1987 is the only child of Madam Georgina Baffoe (based in Germany) and raised by his Uncle Mr. Ransford Kissi Appiah and Aunt Mrs Evelyn Kissi Appiah in Accra-Ghana. His diligence made his life worth emulating and from all angles that is what would be fondly missed about him.

K.B as he was addressed by his colleagues had a beautiful sense of sarcasm which he gracefully pinched into every conversation to keep his comrades entertained and excited. His personality was brought to life in his 2010 article about death, in which he belittled humanity’s greatest fear.  He said, “I know many who are just scared to hear the word – ‘death’! I don’t know why though, maybe it’s because you know you would end up in hell hence do not want to hear of the event which would forward you to your final destination; maybe it’s because you think this world is good that you don’t want to imagine not being part of it or maybe you are afraid because others are afraid of it. But well whether you like it or not, very soon you would die! Hahahahahaha! Well sorry but this isn’t so funny for some of you but it is the truth; you would die soon! And please don’t stop reading at this point because that won’t prevent you from death! Anyway, sorry if I got you scared but why should we be scared of death? It’s something which would happen to everyone, no one can escape it so why should we be scared of it? I think about death for many reasons. First of all, I think about the death of my family members and friends like you. I think about all the good times and experiences I have had with some of you and think about the near future when you would not be around or when my family would not be around.”  With this, would it be easy to conclude that Kwabena somehow saw his death fast approaching or was that a mere coincidence? To think of the fact that his article written solely about death contained the expression “Hahaha” is enough to describe Kwabena’s courage and ‘go-getting’ attitude which made him very able to battle head-on with the struggles of life; indeed he was a fighter.

The members of the New Patriotic Party and his entire family are still in limbo and cannot come to terms with his sudden demise. “Oh Kwabena, you should have told me that your trip to Wa would be your very last time. If I had my own way, I would have gone into the land of the departed to bring you back. My heart keeps bleeding and simply cannot contain your absence. Please son, return if you can!” His Aunty wailed. The thirty (30) year old left behind a beautiful fiancée who has been reduced to nothing but a weak pillar of pain and sorrow. He stood for nothing but truth, excellence and fairness, making sure he was at the defense of all who called on him. He was an exceptional journalist who was very professional in his field and ensured that all his reports were accurate.
