President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 confirmed Joseph Whittal as the new Commissioner for the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Mr. Whittal was sworn-in at a short ceremony at the Flagstaff House Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Whittal was until his appointment acting as the head for the human rights body after the former commissioner, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey was removed for causing financial loss to the state.

Also Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, a deputy chair of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has now been appointed by the President as the substantive head of the (NCCE).

Ms. Nkrumah replaces Mrs. Charlotte Osei, who has taken appointment as the head of the country’s Electoral Commission in July last year.

The two appointments come a few weeks after incumbent Mahama suffered defeat in the presidential election to main opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.

The investiture of the president-elect is scheduled for January 7, 2017.
