The Volta regional minister, Helen Adjoa Ntoso has asked Municipal and District Chief executives in the region to remain at post, even after the inauguration of the President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP government on January 7, 2017.

Speaking at the last meeting of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in Ho, the minister told all 25 MMDCEs in the region to stay on and perform their duties until they handover to their successors appointed by the new government.

You are all aware that the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo won the eletions and will be forming the next government after the transfer of power on January 7, 2017 to appoint a regional minister and also nominate people to the positions of municipal and district chief executives across the whole country. It means it will take some time for that to be done because government appointees at the assemblies will have to be appointed by the new government.

She added: I just want to say that the MMDCEs are requested to be at post and work as usual before nominations and confirmations are done and handing over and taking over is done. After 7th January, the President is going to appoint his Ministers and MMDCEs, not until they are confirmed, our MMDCEs are supposed to remain at post and work as usual. It might take two or three months…nobody knows. So let me warn, technocrats who are working under the Municipal and District Chief Executives to coorperate with them. Not until I hand over my position, I still remain the Volta Regional Minister, we’re all on the same page. We don’t want to hear that people are refusing to sign documents because a new government is in power, if you do that you have yourself to blame because the NDC guys are more the NPP guys so if you stick your neck out and you dont want to sign documents because there’s change of new government,  when anything happens you’ll have yourself to blame.”

Hon. Helen Ntoso however warned staff of the various assemblies to comport themselves and cooperate with the MMDCEs to ensure the continuous running of assemblies throughout the transition period.
