The Ghana Police Service says it has put in place adequate measures to provide security up till December 7 when the incoming leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would be sworn into office during the much anticipated inauguration of the President-elect.

Director of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent Dr Benjamin Agordzo, said this forms part of their operations for the Christmas festivities and post-election security strategies.

Today, January 2, 2017 has been declared public holiday by the Ministry of Interior.

This is because the statutory holiday of New Year’s Day fell on Sunday.

The holiday is a chance for people to make time for a great moment at interesting places whether on a seaside or countryside with friends and families.

However, throughout the festive period, the Police said security will still be tight in several spots for revelers.

“We have plans to ensure that we get ourselves involved among the people who are going to the beaches and a lot of parties here and there. This is part of our plans from the time of entering a new year which we’re going through and that will also eat into the inauguration which is part of our bigger plan. So I must say that we are well prepared for any eventuality and we hope that there would be peace, law and order in everywhere in the country,” Chief Supt. Dr Benjamin Agordzo, told Accra-based Joy FM.
