The Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced an 18% rise in pension benefits for pensioners effective January, 2017.

The move is in line with Section 80 of the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766).

Accordingly, all SSNIT pensioners on the current minimum monthly pension of GH¢276 will have their pensions increased to GH¢334.81, while fresh pensioners from January 2017 will receive a minimum monthly pension of GH¢276, SSNIT said a release issued Tuesday.

Current pensioners on the SSNIT Pension as at December, 2016 will have their pensions

  1. Increased by a fixed rate of 15% plus;
  2. An additional flat amount of GH¢41 per pensioner.

 

“SSNIT takes this opportunity to inform all pensioners who have not yet re-registered for their biometric smart cards to do so by 28th February, 2017. All unregistered pensioners will have their pension payment delayed if they do not re -register for their smart cards,” the statement concluded.
