The soon to be majority side of parliament moved quickly in naming their picks for key leadership positions for the House before midnight Friday, selecting seasoned politicians like Mike Ocquaye and Joe Osei-Owusu, among others to lead the House for the seventh parliament.

Joe Osei-Owusu popularly known as Joe Wise, and Member of Parliament for Bekwai in the Ashanti region, has been proposed as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The Bekwai legislator who accepted his new role with emotions said although he never saw himself in that big role he’s nonetheless psyched himself for the position after his engagement with the leadership of his side.

“I’m ready for the job. My experience gathered over the years in practicing law and in the legislature will guide me to perform the new role very well. I’m quiet aware that as Speaker or Deputy Speaker you ought to be objective and impartial in leading the House to conduct business. Even while in parliament, if I’m making contributions I make sure that what I’m putting forward I’m not unduly attacking the opponent without justification. All this will shape me on how to approach my work in the House when I step in for the Speaker,” Joe Wise told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Friday.

The outgoing Minority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu becomes the new Majority Leader with intelligent and vivacious young Legislator, Hon. Adwoa Sarfo Kantanka MP for Dome/Kwabenya being the Deputy Majority Leader, reports say.

The sixth parliament of the fourth republic will expire midnight Friday, January 6, 2017.
