The New Patriotic Party Constituency Secretary for the Ashaiman constituency, Chapman Takyi Kordam has called for the speedy appointment of Chief Executives for the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies(MMDAs) to avert the continuous seizure of public facilities by irate party activists.

There are pockets of worrying situation across the country as NPP party activists are on a rampage and invading public facilities in an attempt to forcefully take over.

A group of sticks and cutlasses wielding men believed to be supporters of the ruling NPP Monday morning chased out workers and locked offices of Youth Employment Agency(YEA) in two districts in the Northern region.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM after the Ashaiman Police managed to foil another seizure attempt of a lorry station in the area,  Takyi  Kordam said it is taking a toll on them to manage the chaotic situation happening in the area, hence called on the President to consider speeding up appointments into the MMDAs to avert the troubles at the various localities.

“If we can have a Chief executive by the end of February, it will help us a lot. I know it takes some processes;government is concentrating on Ministerial appointments and after that they will go through vetting and all that, but we know is going to take sometime, however we’ll plead with him that, if he can make some of these appointments at the local level so that they’ll come and put things in order,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ruling NPP constituency secretary has condemned the trend by irate youth of the party saying it doesn’t lie in their remit to take over public properties irrespective of the fact that their party is in power.
