The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Saturday, January 28, 2017, leaves the shores of Ghana to attend the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.

The meeting of the Heads of State will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from January 30 to January 31, 2017.

The event is under the theme, “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in the Youth”.

The Summit will also elect a new Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

Prior to the commencement of the Ordinary Session of the Assembly on Monday, retreat for the Heads of State will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017, immediately after a breakfast meeting with the new Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

A statement from the presidency dated January 28, 2017 and signed by its Acting Director of Communication, Eugene Arhin, said the President will return home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.
