Workers of state-owned power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) have objected to government’s consideration of privatizing operations of the company.

The move set to be executed under a concessionary arrangement for more than 20 years has been met with stiff opposition from the  workers, who insist the plan by government to give ECG out on lease will not help to improve the real problems facing the energy sector.

According to the workers, ECG would rather see some appreciable gains when it’s listed on the Ghana stock Exchange(GSE).

They also believe if the existing utility tariff structure should be modified to reflect the current trends, there wouldn’t be any need to package ECG and give it out.
