The Assesewa Senior High School  has been relieved of exorbitant water bills which was draining limited purse of the School.

The School is indebted to the Asesewa Community Water Supply Board which supplies water to the school, a debt of over GHC 26,000 attracting several threats of disconnection by the community water board.

The School is slapped with average monthly bill of GHC 5000 exerting pressure on the finances of the school.

The situation compelled management of the school to seek the intervention from Plan International Ghana, a Child Centered Community Development Organization , to aid the school with alternate affordable water source.

Plan International Ghana responded swiftly by constructing a GHC 32,000 hydro fractured mechanized borehole project connected with underground pipelines which pumps water to the entire school.

Commissioning the Project on Saturday, the headmaster of Assesewa SHS, Mr. Samuel Yeboah Gyebi  said, the water project has relieved the School of huge financial burden and water stress which the school goes through during the dry season.

He said water stress in the school during dry seasons forces students to walk long distances in search of water which sometimes expose female students to fall prey to all sorts of deviancy.

The Eastern Regional Director of Plan International Ghana, Kofi Adade Debrah said, Plan Ghana has since 2016  embarked upon the drilling of 17 boreholes in the Upper Manya district  and Akuapem North municipality to correct the shortfalls in water supply.

He said the selection of Assesewa SHS for the technology base water  project ” became necessary as several attempts over the years go drill boreholes have not been successful ” at the backdrop of the fact that ” the school could not afford the huge water bills of the Assesewa Town Water Supply system “.

He said the project will among other things improve performance of students in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination because students will no longer hustle for water .

Robert Lamptey, school Prefect of Assesewa SHS narrated that, students painfully spend several hours roaming about in search of water during water scarcity period in the dry season exposing the female students to several dangers.

He said, the situation also obstructs effective teaching and learning .
