Lawyer for Gregory Afoko, the lead suspect in the murder of late Upper East Regional chair of the NPP , Adams Mahama, has petitioned the Human Rights Court for a bail for his client.
The move follows the refusal of the Magistrates’ court sitting on the matter to grant bail to Mr Afoko.
However, the Human Rights court could not sit on the matter as the official from Attorney General’s failed to turn up in court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aidan Dery told the court that the prosecution division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters was served with the motion only Thursday evening.
Lead counsel for the accused, Mr Ekow Ampah Korsah told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Kofi Essel Mensah that his client could not be held responsible if the Police was not served early.
The court has adjourned the matter to July, 29.
Gregory Afoko and his accomplice Issah Musah are alleged to have administered the acid attack that led to the death of Adams Mahama.
A Magistriate Court in Accra, presided over by Mr Worlanyo Kotoku on July 10,2015 admitted Musah Issah, who is accused of abetment to bail.
It, however, declined bail in respect of Gregory Afoko, saying the Court did not have the jurisdiction to do so and advised his counsel to go to the High Court.
