Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has urged party supporters not to be discouraged by the unfortunate comments made by ex Spokesperson for the party’s campaign during the 2016 general elections.
He’s called on the NDC faithfuls to gird their loins and brace themselves up for hard work to ensure the party wins the 2020 elections and comes back to power.
Madam Joyce Bawa Mogtari who’s now an Aide to former President John Mahama has said she won’t be bothered should the ruling New Patriotic Party rule for eight (8) years.
Speaking with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Wednesday, the former Deputy Minister for Transport disclosed that for the NPP to rule in government from 2016 to 2024 is normal and shows the beauty of Ghana’s democracy.
“Well I don’t really mind if NPP rules for eight (8) years, it’s democracy and really not an issue. When they lost, you can imagine how they felt when we moved into Flagstaff House and I know the feeling… We’ve all been there and that is the beauty of our democracy.”
But her comments have irked a large section of the NDC family who have roundly condemned her utterances at a time the party is srategizing to recapture power in the next general elections in 2020.
Speaking on Kasapa News Thursday, Koku Anyidoho said he and his other colleagues, national executives are poised to see the NDC return to power, adding that Joyce Bawa Mogtari’s views are entirely hers and does not represent that of the party.
“Her locus is that she speaks for the former President, maybe she may be airing the views of ex President Mahama in a private conversation she’s had with him, she does not speak on behalf of the NDC. If she’s having a good time talking somewhere, she should concentrate on that and not make comments that may suggest her views are that of the NDC,..NDC will not be in opposition for 8 years.”
He added: “We are confident as a party that the over one million people who didn’t come out to vote for the NDC nor the NPP, we’ll engage them and they will in the next elections vote massively for the NDC in 2020, we are looking at Akufo Addo’s government as a one-term government. And so if Joyce Bawa is looking at the next 8 years for the NDC to return to power, then she’s lost it.”
