National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has challenged Minister of Communications Dr Omane Boamah to update Ghanaians on how far investigations have gone in the case in which the NPP allegedly sought to rig the Talensi by-election via a test message that went to the wrongly recipient.

According to him, the alleged plot was a matter disingenuously fabricated by Dr Omane Boamah and the ruling party just to negatively affect the NPP’s chances in that by-election which was eventually won by the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr Omane Boamah, a day or two to the elections was all over the media outlets claiming that the said plot was being masterminded by NPP Vice-Chairman, Freddie Blay and Chairman Wuntumi who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.

He put out a recorded call and a text message from an anonymous woman who the NDC claimed was an NPP official, mistakenly made to the Regional Minister James Zuugah Tiigah.

The minister averred, the text message was originally meant for a conspirator in the whole plot but for some twist of events it ended up on the phone of the Regional Minister.

“James, please once again Chairman Wontumi [Ashanti regional NPP chairman] and honorable Blay say I should tell you to tell your men not to use the black cream on Tuesday and that they should get rid of the ones in their possession. Please keep your distance for now,” the minister read the content of the mysterious text message from the anonymous source as saying.

He said the following morning, the lady having noticed the text had gone to the wrong destination decided to explain in another text message that the earlier one was not meant for him but rather a brother called James.

However John Boadu who strongly believed the story was cooked up, asked Dr Omane Boamah to brief Ghanaians about the issue, especially as he (Omane Boamah) had earlier vowed to get to the bottom of the case to expose the NPP’s evil deeds.

“We are not going to allow this matter to die a natural death, the Minister told Ghanaians that he had asked the National Communications Authority (NCA) to give out the identity of the woman who is believed to have sent the message, and he should bring us up to date on this matter, as a Minister of Communications, he can get all the information he needs from the NCA at anytime he wants.

“We are just about to enter an election year in 2016 and we don’t want in the future, a repetition of such cases of alleged plots foisted on the opposition by the government, which is why we must get to the bottom of this allegation. We really need to see the truth in the matter, we just can’t leave it hanging,” John Boadu added.
