The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has pledged to work diligently to ensure that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins the 2016 general elections despite losing her seat in a fiercely contested Parliamentary primary.

“I thank all my supporters and all the delegates for coming out to speak their minds. Remember that 2016 election and that is the ultimate. I thank you all for the support and I pledge my support to the NPP which is the one that has been victorious today,” she noted.

Madam Naa Torshie Addo was addressing followers of the elephant family moments after the Electoral Commission had declared her vanquished in the fiercely contested Tema West NPP parliamentary primary on Saturday.

The deputy Minority Chief Whip had sought to seek the mandate of the people a third time but failed after leading them to retain the seat in the 2008 and 2012 parliamentary election.

She polled 273 out of the 721 total votes cast while her number one competitor, Carlos Ahenkorah garnered 502 votes to win the mandate of the people.

A third competitor, Adwoa Amoako, managed only two votes.
