Unilever Ghana as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme launched the 2017 World Oral Health Day at a ceremony in Accra with a health walk.

To mark the World Oral Health Day (WOHD), leading oral healthcare brand in Ghana, Pepsodent in partnership with the Ghana Education Service, The Ghana Dental Association and the Ministry of Health launched a public awareness programme through a health walk which started from Ayikuma in Accra to Peduase in the Eastern region to educate Children and Adolescent on oral health.

In an interview with Kasapa Sports, the Cooperate Affairs Manager of Unilever Ghana, Henry Herbert Malm, stated that the theme for this year’s celebration is “live mouth smart”/“brush day and night”.

“We’re joining the rest of the world to highlight what it takes to have very good oral health and to live well. We’re making sure that we create that awareness around it. Trying to get people to know that it’s good to brush your teeth day and night and using paste that has fluoride.

“Once you get it straight as far as your oral health is concern you get it right, it’s all starts with the mouth that what’s going to keep your confident level up if you’re able to get your oral health needs well and your body health matters a lot since it has a lot of connection so far as your mouth is concern, so far as it’s an emphasis that we are laying on it, keep it right and you will be sound.

“This whole business about oral health is a behavioural thing, it’s always on point when you get the kids to know about it, because they’re going to talk about it to their parents and siblings so the multiplying effect is huge, and also wanting them to develop these habits early enough by brushing their teeth day and night. We have a target of 25 million face to face interactions with children by 2020, and we already have 7.5 million and we intend to really reach this milestone,” he added.

The week-long event started with a walk last Saturday in Accra and a Free oral screening was organised to educate the public on health related issues at the Accra Mall.

On Monday, a durbar was held at the International Trade Fair Center, La-Accra to also educate school children about the essence of oral health care.
