Co-Host of ‘Starr Drive’on Starr 103.5FM, Anita Erskine, will single-handedly host the 18th edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), tonight at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Many names of astute female celebrities emerged for consideration but the organisers of the prestigious awards settled on the television and radio personality as the official host of this year’s highly-anticipated event.

The event is arguably the biggest night event on the Ghanaian music calendar as musicians are recognised for their work over the year under review.

Anita would be ably supported by Joy FM’s DJ Black, who is the official DJ for the awards.

The Red Carpet experience of the awards night, which has been an integral part of the VGMA, the glitz and glamour session, will, however, be hosted by Live FM/GHone TV presenter Berla Mundi and fashion designer Elikem Kumordzie the Taylor.

In a telephone interview with the Daily Heritage, Anita expressed her excitement, saying

“I’m honoured as it’s my first time to host such an event in the music industry. Being a host of such prestigious awards night, as a woman, I am proud.”

According to the mother of two, the event is a challenging task as it will be telecast live for the world to see, but she promised to make all women proud.

“I can confidently say this is not my first time of hosting an event but this deal is big. It is Ghana’s biggest music platform and I will deliver as I single-handedly host this prestigious awards night, ” she said.

When asked why the organisers chose her rather than other female celebrities, she said, “I have worked so hard and as a woman, I must have something to be called for. At this point in my career, I deserve it.”

She mentioned that it is time for women to come out of their shelves and take on challenging roles as men [do], showcasing their talent and most importantly stand-up call through hard work.

“I teach women and girls if there is anything they can be, they have to be patient. Dreaming and prayer is important. My story as a woman has never stopped me from achieving what I’m seeking for,” she added.

Anita, over the years, has contributed immensely to the growth of women as an entrepreneur and an advocate for women across the globe.
