Butchers in New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region want government to establish a Meat Processing factory as the municipality’s share of the One -District -One Factory project to stimulate meat production in the country .
The newly installed Chief Butcher of Koforidua Zongo , Osmanu Adams told Kasapa news the meat factory has the capacity to create several employment opportunities for the youth and generate income and foreign exchange for the country .
The Chief Butcher stressed that, establishment of a meat factory would lead to processing and Production of wholesome meat in large quantities to meet the demanding market in both Ghana and abroad.
He recounted that,since the collapse of the only meat factory established by Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr .Kwame Nkrumah ,the meat industry in the country has suffered leading to unaccepted practices in meat processing which is inimical to the health of consumers .
He said, it is therefore prudent for Government to establish meat Processing factory to supply hygienic meat for the country .
Osmanu Adams pointed out that ,even though efforts have been made to improve the only Slaughter house in the New Juaben Municipality, the condition of the slaughter house is not encouraging .
He also added that,the capacity of the Koforidua slaughter house is not able to accommodate more butchers in the municipality hence the call for a meat processing factory.
Meanwhile ,the new Chief Butcher has called for unity among members and conformity to standard hygiene practice in slaughtering meat for the public .
Osmanu Adams is succeeding the late Chief Butcher buried few months ago.
He was inaugurated concurrently with a new cow dealers Chief (Bojua), Bayana Mohammed On Sunday in Koforidua Zongo.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The late Chief butcher, Alhaji Tanko Mai Hanji succeeded the late Chief butcher, Iddrisu Karachi who was the first to be installed as the Koforidua Chief butcher in 1970 and died in 2004.
He late Chief butcher was able to unite all the butchers under one umbrella. He visited the butcher’s house every day to ensure that the right thing was done.
He ensured that the safety of the slaughter house is kept clean. He works closely with New Juaben Municipal Assembly to improve the sanitation standard of the slaughter house.
In line with our tradition, the late Dagomba Chief of Koforidua Zongo, Adam Musah, popularly called “Man Power” installed the late Chief Butcher, Iddrisu Karachi.
The late Chief Butcher, Alhaji Tanko Mai Hanji was installed as the second Chief butcher in 2004 and died in 2016.
However, Alhaji Yakubu Sulemana, chairman of koforidua butchers association in consultation with the butchers and elders had chosen Alhaji Osmanu Adams as the new Chief butcher of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Meanwhile, Bayana Mohammed has also been installed as the cow dealers (BOJOA) Chief in Koforidua. He is the son of the first late chief butcher, Iddrisu Karachi
All the late Chief butchers were all presented to the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council.
