A group of nurses comprising of Psychiatric nurses, General nurses and Midwives today picketed at the Ministry of Health to demand immediate employment into the health sector.
The group calling itself the Coalition of Unemployed Bonded Diploma Nurses said government has failed to post them two years after they completed their training from accredited Public Nursing Training Institutions.
According to them, the health ministry has not shown any commitment to address their concerns despite persistent calls made on them.
“The Minister last month on 28th told us that he’s not aware that we are home, so he promised us two weeks, we’ll get the clearance. Now after the two weeks we came back to find out from him- And he is telling us always that we should give him time. Anytime we come they don’t want to meet us.We are fed up. As at now my rent has expired and now my Landlord has sacked me from the house.
Some of the protesters chanted “No clearance, No going home”, insisting the Ministry should come clean on the supposed 11,000 persons who have been issued clearance.
Last month there was a similar incursion by aggrieved nurses who stormed the Ministry of Health(MOH) protesting government’s decision to halt their recruitment into public health institutions.
The protesters stormed the premises of the Health Ministry with their toothbrushes, blankets, hair brushes, tooth paste and other personal belongings and staged the wild protest for hours.
It followed government’s suspension of all recruitment activities for 8,634 nurses and other health staff.
