A group calling itself, “Free Gregory Afoko Now Movement” wants the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to as a matter of urgency arrest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP)  Northern Regional  Chairman, Mr.  Bugri Naabu in connection with the fatal murder of late Adams Mahama, former Upper East Regional Chairman of the party.

In a statement released by the group, largely sympathizers of the embattled brother of former NPP chairman, Gregory Afoko said it has no doubt that Mr. Naabu’s recent revelation in relation to the murder of late Adams Mahama will be relevant to the ongoing criminal trial.

“As a movement, we feel the arrest and incarceration of  our brother and friend, Mr.  Gregory Afoko was unfortunate and in a bad taste. Recent revelations by Mr.  Bugri Naabu confirms our long held belief that Mr.  Gregory Afoko is innocent,” the statement said.

The maverick Northern regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party Daniel Bugri Naabu has accused two ministers in the Akufo-Addo government of being involved in the plot that led to the murder of Adams Mahama.

“…Otiko has been a controversial woman in the party. As I’m telling you, this Adams issue, she was deeply involved, so because of that most of us who know her will call her a controversial woman.

“You’ll be surprised that some of these people who masterminded the killing of Adams have come to take positions in the government … like the Upper East Regional Minister. He was deeply involved in the masterminded killing of Adams,” Mr. Naabu told Radio XYZ.

However, the group said fresh evidence to the ongoing criminal proceeding by Mr Naabu must be treated with all seriously, calling on the IGP to act on it.

“It is against the backdrop of these revelations by no mean a person than the Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling party that we call on the President of the Republic and the IGP to arrest Mr.  Bugri Naabu for further information to help put the murder of Adams Mahama to rest.”

The group has threatened to stage several massive demonstrations to demand the release of Gregory Afoko,  if the request is not heeded to.

Gregory Afoko is currently standing trial for the murder of Adams Mahama after preliminary investigations linked him to the crime.
