Ambrose Dery, Interior Minister

Government has  renewed the curfew at Nkonya and Alavanyo in the Volta Region from 8pm to 5:30am effective Sunday, May 21, 2017.

This follows renewed clashes  at the trouble-torn area leading to sporadic gunshots in the area Saturday which caused the death of one person.

A 62-year-old woman who was shot dead in the latest incident is reported to have gone out of her home to pick mangoes on Saturday, May 20 when the incident happened.

However, the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has, in consultation with the Volta Regional Security Council, renewed the curfew in the area.

A statement to that effect also said: “Meanwhile, Government will like to reiterate that there is a ban on all persons in the two towns and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon. And any persons found with arms or ammunitions will be arrested and prosecuted.”

An age-long conflict between the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya has caused many casualties.
