An Accra Fast Track High Court on Monday clothed the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation with power to collect TV Licence fees from owners of TV sets across the country.

But the court presided over by R.R Batu is yet to pronounce whether GBC has the right to share TV License fees with any organization.

Owner of Ghana’s first private radio station, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey filed an application for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from sharing monies collected with the National Media Commission (NMC) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA).

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the other Defendants have developed a formula by which on collection of the TV Licence Fees, GBC will retain 75% whilst it gives 4% to the Media Development Fund, 4% to the NMC, 15% to GIBA and 2% to the Film Fund.
