Abigail Elorm Mensah, a candidate who contested in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy National Youth elections which ended in confusion last year, has congratulated the winner, James Kofi Fonu Kpatapah after the party declared him as such, yesterday.
The election held in November 2014, was marred by confusion after Abigail Mensah at the end of voting insisted on a recount after she polled 319 votes, as against her main contender’ 325 votes.
The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party on Thursday decided on the impasse which had been unresolved for nearly nine months, and further sworn the winner into office.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Abigail Elorm Mensah, stated that by her action she sought for the good of the party’s democratic process, adding, that she will always stand by.
She noted that though she was not communicated to, after the party decided on the impasse, she accepts the ruling.
“I sent the party a reminder that seven months on I had not heard from them and that i was prepared to go by any decision reached by the party, and so to hear the news on radio was for me not the best, it is as though I have been slighted. But as a true party member I call on all my supporters to rally round the party to ensure the NDC retains power in the 2016 elections. I know a lot of people are down and some have even asked for alternatives, but the interest of the party must be supreme, our goal must be victory for the NDC and nothing else”.
