The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply to the state broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), in Kumasi.

The ECG on Thursday disconnected electricity supply to the state broadcaster’s transmission station at Asokwa over non-payment of accumulated bills to the tune of GHS 1.7 million.

The ECG staff had a tough time disconnecting the power as workers of GBC led by the Regional Manager, Sam Kwatia, deflated the vehicle tyres of the ECG disconnection team but they became rather fired up and proceeded with the exercise.

As a result GBC transmissions have since Thursday evening been off.GBC logo
Public Relations Officers of the ECG in the Ashanti Region, Erasmus Baidoo, in an interview said his outfit is committed in its effort to ensure GBC pays it electricity bills.

According to him, GBC has failed to pay for the power it has consumed despite several notices that have been issued to  them.
