Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings says he’s so far lived well for the virtues he preached in his political life.

The ex-military leader has always been upset about how the laxity in governance makes it impossible to hold persons accountable for wrong doings and punishing them accordingly, which therefore, has led to the widespread corruption.

The last government of his National Democratic Congress(NDC) party, the Mahama administration was hit by major corruption scandals.

A major blow to the Mahama regime was the inability to retrieve 51.2m cedis ($11,7m; £9.3m) paid by the government to the party financier, Woyome even though the Supreme Court ruled back in 2014 that the payment had been unconstitutional.

Mr Rawlings was himself critical of the levels of corruption seen in the last government.

An official of the NDC party in the Greater Accra Region, Anthony Nukpenu recently told Kasapa 102.5 FM in an interview that despite former President Jerry John Rawlings being the Founder of the umbrella family, his love, commitment and loyalty to the party cannot match that of the immediate past President of the land, John Dramani Mahama.

According to the NDC organizer, Mr. Mahama has for the past years, demonstrated his commitment and dedication to serving the party.

“John Dramani Mahama is the only former President who has shown love, loyalty, commitment, dedication and respect to the NDC more than anyone. When it comes to former President Rawlings, I have not seen that”, he noted.

But Mr. Rawlings in a recent tweet said his life clearly radiates the qualities of a good leader, who won’t preach virtue and practice vice.

Rawlings  founded the main opposition NDC Party based on the principles of probity, accountability and transparency.
