A gang of armed robbers besieged the congregation of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) branch at Kumasi Adoato in the Ashanti region and managed to make away with valuables of the church and congregants.

About 100 congregants including pastors were robbed of their personal belongings, mostly phones, laptop and cash at gun point by the unidentified robbers during an all-night service on Sunday, December 24 at about 3am.

The Pastor, Rev Amponsah Acheampong, who confirmed the robbery attack to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the robbers were three and carried guns.

He explained that :”The year is getting to an end and our church, the SDA church, Adoato branch went for our watch night and when it was about 3:00am, we heard a huge noise at our door and all of sudden three armed robbers stormed the church auditorium. Two of them entered into the church house and one was at the door”.

He added:”I was able to see them because I was sitting down there. who allowed me. They were just going round here and there and they saw me but did not ask me any question. I believe it was through the power of the Lord that they didn’t harm me.”

He said the armed robbers searched the church members and took away mobile phones, laptops and cash.

“Let’s say approximately, GHS6,000 or GHS7, 000” were taken away by the robbers from the church members.

Rev Amponsah Acheampong said some of the congregants received bruises from the barrel of the guns used by the suspected robbers. According to him, by the time a police patrol team arrived, the robbers had already bolted.

He said the case has been reported at the Sofoline/Suntreso Police station and they are expected to write their statement on Monday, December 25.
