The people of Effutu land (Winneba) in the Central region of Ghana on January 1 celebrated their Masquerade festival popularly known as “Fancy Dress Dance.”

The annual festival is part of the culture and passion of the people of Winneba and has been held for over 50 years.

Winneba Fancy Dress Festival seeks to promote tourism. This involves the use of masks to disguise their identity during evening parties and other festive ceremonies, often using expensive, elegant, historical or fanciful costumes.

In his remarks, Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, Hon. Afenyo Markin, expressed gratitude to the people and assured them that he is doing all he can to bring development to the area.

The event is by kind courtesy of the Winneba Masquerade Federation. The five groups honoured at this year’s event included; Noble’s No. 5, Egyaa No. 2, Tumus No. 3, Red Cross No. 4 and Royals No. 5.
