The arrest according to the assembly shows their uncompromising stance in bringing an abrupt end to the menace therefore preventing a potential disease outbreak .
The assembly described as disappointing the fact that a law maker of the assembly who was part and parcel of the decision to enact a bye law and subsequent prosecution of offenders ends up flouting the same law .
He was recently even part of a delegation by the assembly that took part in a training by Zoomlion Ghana Limited which was aimed at equipping assembly members from the coastal areas to help clamp down on open defecation.
The assembly has vowed to prosecute the assembly member, adding he should have known better and even show leadership by educating the people not to rather do such things.
Already some 40 people have been fined between Ghc 200 and Ghc 450 by the Elmina magistrate court for engaging in open defecation with one person slapped with a jail term of 12 months for his inability to pay a Ghc450 fine imposed on him.
The assembly is also pushing for the assembly member to be kicked out of the local assembly to serve as deterrent to others . – Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour
