President John Mahama has left Accra for the Thursday May 29 inauguration of Nigeria’s President elect Muhammadu Buhari.

In his absence, Vice President Amissah Arthur, will act as president, officials say.

Buhari, 72, and a former Nigerian army general who came to power some three decades ago through a coup, resurfaced to compete this year’s polls. He won convincingly.

He beat the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan by some 2 million votes.

Mr Mahama is expected back home Friday.
