Residents of Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region have called on the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to deploy military officers to maintain peace in the community.

According to the residents though police personnel have been deployed to the community they remain fear gripped.

One person was confirmed dead while scores of residents were injured in renewed clashes at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region Monday February 19, 2018 afternoon.

Assembly Man for Ahwiaa Overseas Electoral Area Hon Agyapong Mensah speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo revealed that some unscrupulous youth attacked teachers and pupils of Big Six International School at Ahwiaa.

The residents say the situation is not as calm as claimed by the authorities.

“We heard the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah speaking on radio that everything is under control saying his men are here to maintain law and order. What we can say is nothing is under control. The situation is still the same as yesterday. The Police alone cannot control, we need the military to come and maintain law and order here” they said.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah has disclosed that 50 youth have been arrested following the clash and are expected to be arraigned before court today (Tuesday).

Closure of schools 

Schools at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East District have been closed down, while commercial activities have been badly affected following a clash between the Akan and the Muslim Youth.

Some Parents speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei kwadwo said they won’t allow their children to go to school due to the precarious situation in the community.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwabre East Nana Osei Assibey has confirmed that all schools have been closed down due to the situation.
