The Ghana Education Service in the Northern Region has rubbished allegations that the District Chief Executive of Kumbungu Assembly drew double salary as a teacher and DCE.
Reports from local media portals, citing intercepted documents Sunday morning, claimed that the DCE, Abdul Salam Hamza Fatawu, did not resign as headmaster of Wuba English and Arabic Primary School and continued to receive salary for eight months while still at post as DCE.
However, the Education Directorate has denied the report. According to the District Education Director, Hajia Abiba Saaka, the DCE applied for absence of leave immediately he was appointed last year.
She said her outfit later received and forwarded the leave request to the headquarters in Accra and the name of the DCE was asked to be deleted from the system as a staff of the Education Service.
“We forwarded it to Accra (leave of absence request) and more importantly we deleted his name from our payroll. He is not collecting double salary”, Hajia Abiba rejected.
She said once the DCE had requested for the leave of absence, it was the duty of the Controller and Accountant General Department to complete the process and ensure the deletion of his name and accounts from it system but she promised to follow up to ensure the right procedure was followed.
In a telephone interview, the DCE also pushed back the allegation and said it should be disregarded.
According to him several efforts to get the right authorities to complete his leave request and stop the payment have been fruitless until January when he reported the matter again to the education authorities in the district.
He said since January therefore, his staff accounts had not been credited and hoped that this development would prompt the education service in Accra to fast track his leave process.
