George Boateng, with forms in hand

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate aspirant George Boateng has turned down an appeal from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to rescind his decision to contest President John Dramani Mahama, in the party’s upcoming primaries.

According to the Oyarifa branch youth organizer of the party; the NDC General Secretary Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia prevailed on him to step aside.

Mr. George Boateng this morning picked his nomination form in pursuance of his bid to contest for the November 7th presidential primaries.

Speaking to KASAPA NEWS’, KWAKU OPARE ADASUOKO Mr. Boateng stated that he remained resolute in his resolve to unseat President Mahama.

“I went for my forms and around 2pm, surprisingly I started having calls from Asiedu Nketiah and other party bigwigs pleading with me to step down as they did not know I was serious about my intention. They claim it will be shameful for me to contest the sitting president, and I told them no! I am committed to seeing President Mahama out of office. I know several people are not taking me serious, but I want to assure them that I am not ready to take any compensation and allow President Mahama to contest unopposed. That will never happen”.

Moments after the NDC announced a date for the opening of nominations, some National executives of the party including a deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho has said once President Mahama is doing very well with his leadership style and is enjoying the full support of party members, he does not see the need for somebody to contest him.

Nevertheless, he said if one thinks otherwise, he or she may still go to contest the number one gentleman of the land.

It remains to be seen if the 45 years old George Boateng will carry his intention through to the end, by coughing up a whopping GHC 50,000 as filing fee for the Presidential candidate slot.
