The Ashanti Police Command has insisted that the 22 year old woman who was allegedly assaulted by Police officers at Sofoline attempted suicide, despite preliminary report from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, indicating the woman was subjected to severe torture.
Ama Agyemang, a native of Abrepo was arrested by the Sofoline Police on Friday over disagreement she had with her sister.
After her arrest, she was reportedly handcuffed to a cell bar and beaten with a metal object by Police men on duty at the time. But the Police has vehemently denied the claim saying the lady tried committing suicide.
However the doctors have said that looking at the injury sustained by the woman, there are no signs of any suicide marks on her, but rather severe injuries to the head, stomach and other parts of the body.
Ama Agyemang is currently battling for her life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
