The Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Wednesday, June 20, 2018, told Parliament that the government has so far not built any factory under its One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) flagship project.

However, he said plans are far advanced to ensure that the vision of the government comes to fruition in a manner that will not create problems for anybody.

To that effect, he told the House that his outfit is still considering and studying proposals for the establishment of factories in each of the districts in the country so as to cut down the level of unemployment and improve on the welfare of the people.

The Trade and Industry Minister made this observation when he appeared on the floor of Parliament and availed himself for questioning over issues relating to the One-District-One-Factory project.

His reaction was in response to a follow up question posed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh as to how many factories the government has set up so far under the 1D1F flagship project.

Answering the substantive question posed by the NDC MP for Buem, Hon. Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, as to whether there is a standard structural design for the 1D1F initiative and who will be responsible for providing it, Mr. Kyerematen answered in the affirmative.

To him, the structural designs for each factory is determined by the Business Promoters, taking into consideration the nature of process technology required as well as the environmental conditions within the vicinity of the factory.

“Rt. Hon. Speaker, in order to ensure that the structural design of these factories do not pose a threat to the survival of communities in and around the factory, the District Implementation Support Team includes members from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Ghana Standards Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, District Planning Officers among others, to guide the structural design of these factories”, he noted.
