Two officers at the National Headquarters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who sold Presidential nomination forms to President John Mahama’s contender in the party’s upcoming Presidential primary, are currently being queried and may face disciplinary action.

George Boateng, an NDC organizer at the Oyarifa branch in the Madina constituency, on Monday began his quest to unseat President Mahama with the purchase of his nomination forms.

However soon after the news broke, party General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah rubbished the news, saying he was the only person mandated by the party’s laws to issue out Presidential nomination forms, an activity he has not done.

Other party officials even doubted the authenticity of the forms George Boateng was publicly showcasing. However it has emerged that his forms are legitimate.

He has also been described by some NDC members and other political analysts as one on the best jokes in recent times.

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, a Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho stated that the party officials who disregarded the party’s laws had no mandate to sell out the forms.

“I can tell you that these two administrative staffs are currently being questioned. They had no right to do what they did. They are not novices at the party headquarters as they have worked there for several years and should have been abreast with the laws. The General Secretary is the only one clothed with the power to sell Presidential nomination forms, in his absence he can decide to delegate one of his deputies to do that on his behalf”.

He nonetheless stated that, George Boateng picking up the nomination forms does not mean anything as he has other hurdles to surmount.

“It’s amazing how he got the form, anyway, he’ll have to go round the country to have his nominations signed and that will be a difficult task.

“At the vetting level, he will have to convince the party that he has been a member of the NDC in good standing for at least ten (10) years. I repeat the operative word is a member of the party in good standing”.
