Activities in and around the national headquarters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) came to a standstill, Thursday, when the Vice-President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur stormed the offices of the party at Adabraka and picked the presidential nomination forms for his boss.

President John Dramani Mahama will be seeking re-election to lead the NDC as its Presidential Candidate when the party goes to the polls on November 7, 2015.

The party had earlier served notice through a statement that the number one gentleman of the land was scheduled to pick his nomination forms at 1:30pm local time but to the surprise of all, it was his deputy who turned up to transact business on his behalf.

Head of Political Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, in his analysis to the situation in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM said the move by the Vice-President was to put to rest speculation of a rift between him and the President.

That aside, he said it also symbolizes that the President has no intention of choosing someone apart from Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 general elections.

“It symbolizes that it is not likely that the president will choose someone apart from Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 general elections. It tells you that he is the chosen one to partner him.”

“Though he has not come out state his choose, because he has not yet been nominated, Amissah-Arthur going to pick the forms on his behalf is enough to tell the general public and party faithful that he will be maintained,” he noted.
