Highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena has questioned the impact and work influence of persons who were selected by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to represent Ghana as Tourism ambassadors.

“I saw about a couple of months ago or a year ago, they selected certain ambassadors and I ask myself, what work are they doing, tourism ambassadors, and they pick creative arts people.” He lamented.

Speaking on Starr Chat with host Bola Ray, he fumed about the less attention given to the creative arts industry in raising high the standards of music across the country.

According to him, much more has to be done in order to advance the course of the creative industry in the country.

He thinks the ministry must have a holistic approach to solving the issues of the industry, and for that matter every person in the industry has a say in advancing the course of music in the country.

He said “For me I feel they’re focus is on tourism more than the creative arts, I can say so because of the ambassadors they chose.”

To him, appointing tourism ambassadors is irrelevant to the course of promoting the industry.

He has therefore, called on the ministry to consider weightier matters, like the building of a national auditorium and a national studio than the appointment of industry personalities as ambassadors.

“We don’t even have a national auditorium, we don’t have a national studio, not even a national equipment, let say if MUSIGA have equipment you can just go and rent at a subsidize price, which will help the industry to run.”

In September, 2017, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture selected 30 Ambassadors to spearhead the “See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana”, campaign.

The Ambassadors cut across different creative arts sectors including Musicians, Actors, Radio Presenters, Disc Jockeys (DJ) and Bloggers.

Ambassadors include SP Kofi Sarpong, D-Black, Nana Ampadu, Okyeame Kwame, Fancy Gadam, Agya Koo, Lucky Mensah and Sena Degadu.
