The two officers at the National Headquarters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who sold Presidential nomination forms to President John Mahama’s contender in the party’s upcoming Presidential primary, have been sacked.
George Boateng, an NDC organizer at the Oyarifa branch in the Madina constituency, on Monday began his quest to unseat President Mahama with the purchase of his nomination forms.
However soon after the news broke, party General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah rubbished the news, saying he was the only person mandated by the party’s laws to issue out Presidential nomination forms, an activity he has not done.
Other party officials even doubted the authenticity of the forms George Boateng was publicly showcasing.
Addressing a gathering at the party’s Headquarters when Veep Amissah Arthur, picked nomination forms on behalf of President John Mahama, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said he as the Secretary is the only person mandated to issue out Presidential Nomination forms.
“We indicated that the forms must be picked from the General Secretary of the party. Since we announced the guidelines, I’m pleased to inform you that this is the first time any candidate has approached my office to pick nomination forms [referring to President Mahama’s forms].” he said.
Asiedu Nketia announced that the party has sanctioned the party’s accountant and administrator who supposedly sold the forms to Mr Boateng.
“Meanwhile since our staff has been mentioned in this whole saga, we have taken firm administrative measures against them. So those members of our staff who were pretending to be General Secretaries have been sanctioned and you will not see them in this office working again.”
Explaining the procedure to the supporters, Asiedu Nketia said forms could only be sold out after they have been embossed with the “party’s official seal” by the General Secretary.
