The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong has said within the structures of the NPP party, the National Treasurer of the party, has no right to invest party funds, as he (Treasurer) claimed he’s done on behalf of the party.

Kwabena Agyepong questioned the mandate of the Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah to transfer party funds into any form of investment for the party, saying that the Treasurer’s claim of investing part of the controversial Ecobank account in the name of the party was not acceptable.

In an interaction with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday, the Chief Scribe of the party, noted that the party’s treasurer claim of investing for the party was done without recourse to the laid down rules and regulations of the party he’s serving.

“Abankwa Yeboah doesn’t have the right to invest party funds. We all understand that he is the custodian of the funds but he’s not the authorizing officer for the use of party funds. I approve it before he can disburse funds.”

There is brouhaha over the NPP’s alleged secret account at Ecobank which is said to be operated by the party’s first Vice Chairman, Freddie Blay and the Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah.

A Youth Activist of the NPP, Baah Acheamfour, on the premise of this lodged a complaint at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) accusing the two national executives of diverting party funds.

According to him, he took the decision because he needed to help stop the wanton dissipation of party funds in the NPP.

Kwabena Agyepong in a reaction to the contestation of the said Ecobank account revealed that: “they have depleted that account with a withdrawal amount of over 1 million Ghana cedis” without the knowledge of the other executives.
