Ghanaian Afrobeat musician Akoo Nana has hit back at music producer, Mark Okraku Mantey for claiming that the former’s influence in Ghana cannot cause NPP to lose the 2020 elections.
This comes days after the Agorohene of Kasoa, shared a video on his Instagram page concerning BoG and Menzgold brouhaha and called on the president to stop the Central Bank of Ghana from defaming Menzgold else NPP will lose 2020 elections.
Mantey who was a pundit on Hitz Fm’s Entertainment show hosted by Andy Dosty said artistes showing solidarity with Menzgold’s CEO think he is untouchable even when he flouts BoG regulations.
“I don’t know about the laws governing the Banking and gold transactions in this country but my challenge is that am I getting an impression that the fact that Nana Appiah Mensah is supporting the industry so he becomes untouchable.
“I’m surprised that someone (Akoo Nana) is saying when you touch Menzgold, we will not vote for you but I think that backwardness and pre-historic attitude must stop. We live in country that wants to develop and if the country doesn’t develop, we are quick to say that the President has failed but in our own small way we want to grow as a people. The laws of the country must work.
“I think that before we can let this society grow, when people fault or things have not gone the way we want it to go, let know say because I benefit alone from the person, if you do not do this to the person, I will make sure that Nana Addo will not get my vote… Oh Akoo Nana your vote, how many people will he influence to vote for Nana Addo.
“I want to hear that statements from people like Sarkodie, Kojo Antwi. Just like Pope Skinny said he was going to save rap in Ghana but many people felt his gravitas isn’t enough to be making statements like that. Some statements are meant for some particular people who have achieved to a level in society because it will influence others but what will Akoo Nana’s one vote do to the President.”
According to Okraku Mantey, Akoo Nana’s statement to the President Akufo Addo is vague and has no premise.
But reacting to the issue, Akoo Nana who appears not pleased with Mark Okraku Mantey’s comment about he (Akoo Nana) not influential enough to amass votes for the New Patriotic Party, said
“I’ve always respected Mark Okraku Mantey as a Godfather but the reality is that what I did for NPP to come to power, he (Okraku Mantey) can’t do even 0me-quarter of it. He can ask the likes of Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Director of Elections at NPP and Eugene Arhin. Some of us because of what President Nana Addo told us during the NPP’s rally made us vote for the party.
“Sarkodie, Shatta Wale are big in terms of influence which I agree but what I can do on my own, he (Okraku Mantey) can’t do it.”
The Bank of Ghana recently cautioned the general public not to deposit any money with the Menzgold because it has not been licensed to do so.
In a public notice, it said the company has no authority to engage in “solicitation, receipt of money or investment and the payment of dividends or returns to its clients.”
But the CEO of Menzgold Ghana, Nana Appiah Mensah labelled Bank of Ghana as a joke, indicating his company neither takes deposits from customers nor does any deposit-taking business in Ghana.
